Setting goals is a critical part of any successful endeavor, and blogging is no exception.

If you want to be successful as a blogger, you need to set attainable goals and develop a plan to achieve them.

In this blog post, we will discuss five practical tips that will help you achieve your blogging goals.

Blog Goals: 5 Practical Tips to Achieve Your Blogging Goals

Do you have big blog goals? Are you right on track or panicking?

The blogging journey can be bumpy. So, fasten your seatbelts, and let’s talk about simple and practical tips to create rock-solid blog goals.

Tip #1 Decide NOW if blogging is right for you

Just to give you a little background, I started The Greatest “officially” in January 2019, the ultimate goal is to create content that attracts client work. I offer freelance writing services which has been my bread and butter since 2015.

The thought of starting a blog came to mind because I am tired of writing unpaid writing test samples. I figured, if I have a blog, I can simply send the URL to my prospect client to browse and that alone would automatically tell if I’m fit or not.

Plus, I think that having a blog gave me a sense of authority. Plus, it will showcase my skills on writing blog posts that are SEO-friendly.

So, how do you decide?

I encourage you to ask the following questions:

  1. Can I make time to start a blogging business?
  2. Am I patient enough to pursue my blogging goals?
  3. How much am I willing to spend?

These are the questions I asked myself when I started Bringing Up Business. I know how hard it is to grow your personal brand and at the same time work with clients. In fact, I reached the point where I want to give up because I’m overwhelmed. There’s so much work to do.

As you can see, I’m still here (haha), and I am glad I made the decision to keep this blog moving. Besides, I am thankful, especially to those who are DM-ing me, asking questions about blogging and thanking me for all the help. Knowing that there are people out there who appreciate what I do has become an inspiration to move forward. And, if you’re one of those people, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Tip #1 is very important because this will help you create a solid foundation to create your blogging goals. When times get rough (and believe me, it will be), you will go back to why you did it in the first place

You will go back to that time when you decided that blogging is REALLY the best for you. So while the world is in quarantine, grab this opportunity to go deep about WHY you want to start a blog, and WHY it’s right for you.

Moreover, this will help you determine that when the time comes that we’re no longer under quarantine, will this plan of your resonate with your goals this 2020?

Tip #2 Create ACTIONABLE and REALISTIC blogging goals

Now that you have FINALLY decided to say yasss to start a blogging business, it’s time to set goals.

How ACTIONABLE and REALISTIC are we talking about here?

For example:

By September 2020, my blog is getting 10,000 page views per month and I can now apply to Monumetric.

For those of you who don’t know what Monumetric is,

Monumetric is a full-service ads partner to help you reach your revenue goals for your blog. Monumetric is similar to Google Adsense. They place ads on your website, and they pay you based on the number of views your website gets per month.

Compared to Google Adsense, Monumentric pays more.

Another ads partner is Mediavine. However, you have to have at least 25k webpage sessions to apply. Click this link to apply.

Now that you have your ultimate goal set up, what are you going to do to achieve it?

So, now that you have your ultimate goal set up, what are you going to do to achieve it?

You set mini goals like:

  1. Write 1 blog post per week
  2. Schedule 10 Pinterest pins every day using Tailwind
  3. Participate in daily Facebook group daily threads to gain exposure and website traffic

Lastly, write your goals in a piece of paper, a handy dandy notebook, or use Trello. It makes a lot of difference when you write it down. For me, it helps set my goals in place. Writing it down sets the momentum. You will even feel that it’s a big step already. So do it. Write it down.

Tip #3 Do not publish blog posts too often

Remember that time when you started a hobby? For instance, you saved your allowance to buy a guitar because you want to learn how to play More Than Words, yikes #signsofaging haha.

Hobbies are always exciting. It celebrates your uniqueness. That you’re one of a kind. You feel like you’re on top of the world. Most of all, you feel like you can do it for the rest of your life, and pray to God that you will make money off of it.

Truth is, it’s not that easy. Let’s look at YouTube content creators. Some of them hire video editors to help out with their weekly or daily uploads. Sometimes, it will take years before their channel is monetized by Google Adsense.

On the other hand, bloggers hire content writers (like me) to help out in writing content. Sometimes, they even hire photographers, Pinterest Managers, and VA’s to help out in admin tasks.

While you’re still learning the blogging basics, allow yourself to work at your own phase without putting too much pressure on yourself. So if you decide that you will publish a blog post every day, think again.

ARE YOU SURE?

Hear me out,

if you publish more often, chances are, you’ll be overwhelmed and your content will be compromised.

To avoid this from happening, all you have to do is create a system that will work according to your lifestyle.

For me, I find that publishing once a week is manageable. Aside from writing blog posts, I need to create my pins, social media posts, and conduct keyword research.

Plus, I have client work, too.

Tip #4 Get Rid of Bad Habits

I mentioned on Facebook and Instagram that I was never a morning person. I like mornings, but I’m not the type of person who makes it a habit to wake up at 4 am for a quick “me-time”.

But we all know that having bad habits is a health risk. Therefore, I took action and in January, I started setting my alarm at 7 AM. Now, I am proud to say that I wake up at 6 AM with no alarms. Okay fine, my dogs are my alarms. In fact, I got up today at 5 am because I felt Bunso (my Shih Tzu) licking my forehead. I mean, who can go back to sleep with that?

Anyway, getting rid of your bad habits will make you go back to Tip #1. Your bad habits will be your roadblocks toward reaching your blogging goals.

Tip #5 Do not be afraid to ask for help

Going back to tip #5, ask questions. I think it’s part of our culture that we hate asking questions because we don’t want to look stupid. Well, guess what, we’re not in school anymore.

No one’s grading you.

Ask questions. Know what kind of help you need.

blogging goals

To wrap up, I want you to know that Bringing Up Business is not just a blog, It’s a support group.

BUT, do not allow yourself to be to be stuck in the learning phase FOREVER.

GET MOVING.

Learn. Apply. Monetize.

That’s our tagline.

Conclusion

Now is the time to make smart decisions and plan for our future. Starting a blog will generate different income streams. In fact, my previous blog post talked about tips for new bloggers about affiliate marketing. With a blog, you can sell products (physical and digital), run ads, write sponsored posts, create membership sites, even online courses

Also, here’s an interesting option, start a blog then sell it. Chelsea Clarke, of Her Paper Route, has an amazing Blog Flipping Masterclass that teaches you the blogging basics on how to turn a blog into a valuable asset.

Take care, and see you in the next one.
